The Farm

Our "grown locally" program launched in 2010. Our goal? To grow as much of our own floral product as possible, with attention to premium (florist) quality, sustainable practices and the beauty of the process. These days, we use high tunnels and field production to offer local, seasonal product from March to November. With over 45 flower and plant varieties in production, tulips grown just a few miles away can grace the shop in April, while sunflowers still bloom at Thanksgiving. Working with other local growers, we're proud that during peak season, nearly 75% of our inventory comes from the state of Maine. Running from May to October, our subscribers enjoy colorful arrangements that surprise and delight. We offer two week, six week, or full season shares of flowers grown exclusively on our farm. Customers can choose the option that best suits their needs. As part of the Fairwinds Grown Project, we also get to share our knowledge of flowers and growing practices with our customers. Each year we introduce new varieties and work to expand our growing season. Flowershare customers are invited to our annual farm tour and open house held each July when the farm is in full bloom. Bulk garden flowers are available to customers who want to make their own arrangements and displays. Available in two sizes, bulk buckets vary in flower content week to week but always include a wide mix of focal flowers, filler flowers, and greens. We can even tailor the mix to suit particular color palettes. Orders can be placed for weekly pick up or delivery during the growing season. Our bulk buckets are also a great option for the DIY bride. With enough advance notice, we can provide large quantities of specific varieties and colors grown especially for your celebration. Merz Barn Farm is a working farm and a point of inspiration for owners, Corey Paradise and Cullen Schneider. Our annual art event, MakeKnowArt, celebrates the notion that art is easy; all you have to do is begin. Each June, we design and create a new mural on the west face of our large barn. Friends, family, neighbors, and anyone interested in participating can enjoy our version of public art, as a viewer or maker. Each year brings a new creation and a new group of people together. Visible from Route 15, we love offering up a bit of art to everyone who passes by.
